Helen K. Doverspike

Died: 3/27/2016

Helen K. Mauk "Mom" Doverspike, of Evans City, died peacefully with her two sons by her side on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, of natural causes at the age of 95.

Born March 8, 1921, to Malcom and Mary Manner Mauk, in Coolspring, PA.

Helen was the wife of the late Gerald C. "Pop" Doverspike for 61 years until his passing Oct. 30, 2003.

Helen was a member of English Lutheran Church Zelienople, where she was active in many functions.

Together, they took care of hundreds of children at the Lutheran Children's Home in Zelienople, for many years. Through her loving care, she became "Mom" to many of them.

Helen was an avid gardener and enjoyed bowling, knitting and most of all, her family. She and her husband delivered meals on wheels for many years.

She will be missed dearly by many; her family, extended family, friends and neighbors. She was a friend to all and always lent a hand to those in need.

Like her husband, this quote sums up the riches and value of her life: "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Helen succeeded in all of these. Hers was a life well lived.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, David A. Doverspike of Conroe, Texas and Thomas E. "Tom" (Tina) Doverspike of Pittsburgh. Grandchildren, Joshua Doverspike of Denver, CO and Mrs. Casey (Melissa) Knudson, Castle Rock, CO. Great grandchildren, Piper, Ozzie, Madison, Delaney.

Friends and relatives of Helen K. Doverspike, who passed away March 27, 2016 will be received Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 114 W. Spring St., Zelienople, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 8 P.M. Burial will take place in Reynoldsville.
