Jean Douglas Anderson Eckstein, age 77, of Harmony, passed away Sunday afternoon June 12, 2011, in Butler Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Born in New Wilmington, on November 10, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Edwin L. and Ellen M. Douglas Anderson. She was Presbyterian. Mrs. Eckstein was a homemaker. She was also a foster parent for 25 years. She loved horses and was involved in 4-H for 20 years. She later helped handicapped children learn horsemanship.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, April Eckstein. She is survived by her husband, Homer P. Eckstein, whom she married June 21, 1951; 6 children, Claudia (Ron) Kelly of Slippery Rock, Douglas (Jennifer) Eckstein of York, Valerie (Mark) Kline of Evans City, Edwin (Cindy) Eckstein of Harmony, Brian (Connie) Eckstein of Mars, and Simone Eckstein of Pittsburgh; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and her dog Buddy.
Relatives and friends of Jean Douglas Anderson Eckstein, who died Sunday, June 12, 2011, will be received at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Evans City, PA 16033, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Services willl follow at 8 P.M.
