Ida L. Laquatra Yeager

Died: 1/18/2025

Ida Louise Laquatra Yeager age 84, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025, in UPMC Passavant, after a brief illness.
Born August 5, 1940, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Nellie Mekonis LaQuatra.

Ida was a member of Divine Grace Parish, St. Gregory Church.
She owned, operated and was the President of Ida Yeager Sales Inc., which sold construction materials. Her daughter Rachel Altares, worked beside her.

Ida grew up on the Northside of Pittsburgh, where she constantly and lovingly cared for her siblings. As an adult, she continued to be a stalwart support for her family. A renaissance woman, Ida was also an auto cross driver, a gardener, a small business owner of "Blackberry Farms" with her sister Christine.

Ida did so much as the list of her accomplishments attests to. However, this doesn’t encompass the whole of Ida, a very open minded, non-judgmental soul. She embraced Joshua’s musical career and music preferences. She absorbed enormous amounts of information, seemingly through her pores.

Ida was many things to family and friends alike. Cheerful, fun, loving, supportive, dedicated, driven to excellence, all that was Ida. Many, including her husband, her daughter and her sister, Roseanne, said Ida was their best friend. Her husband added that everyone who met her loved her. He also added, “She was a good person.” Ida’s grandson Zackery was the apple of her eye. She was the most thoughtful, loving grandmother.
Those who were fortunate to share a portion of their lives with Ida will remember her home was a safe harbor for family and friends and her smile was the beacon that drew us in. Her love of life was evident in all she did. She gave the best she had to offer, and it was exclusively “homemade”.

To know Ida, was to marvel at her.

She is survived by her children Rachel Alteres of Evans City and Joshua Altares of ID and her grandson Zackery Altares. As one of seven children of Jack and Nellie Mekonis LaQuatra, she is also survived by her beloved sisters Roseanne Laquatra McCampbell, Carolyn Laquatra Dish (Vince Dish) and Lydia-Laquatra Fesler (Paul Fesler) and brother Paul LaQuatra (Effie Alexander LaQuatra), Tom Yeager, her friend and ex-husband and countless nieces and nephews.

Friends of Ida L. Laquatra Yeager who passed away on Saturday January 18, 2025, will be received on Wednesday January 22, 2025 from 6-8 P.M. and 1-3 and 6-8 Thursday. A Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. from the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City.
