Laura E. Kaltenbaugh Nicklas, age 100 of Butler passed away Wednesday, night, October 12, 2016 at Lowrie Place where she had been resident for eight years.
Born June 22, 1916 in Connoquenessing Twp., she was the daughter of the late Milton J. and Laura M. Kramer Kaltenbaugh.
She was a former member of White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church, Renfrew. She and her husband in later years joined the Christ Community United Methodist Church.
In the 1930’s Laura was a pitcher for the Connoquenessing Ladies Baseball Team.
She belonged to Buco Travel Trailer Club and visited many camping sites. Laura belonged to the Senior Citizens Bowling League at Family Lanes. She was very devoted to helping with Meals on Wheels.
She, her husband, family and friends had many good times playing card games, the best being New Years Eve.
She had a favorite saying, “I grew up on a farm, married a farmer and was happy to be a farmer’s wife”
Laura married Charles “Boops” Nicklas on February 2, 1938 and who died April 19, 2000. The last member of her family she was preceded in death by eleven siblings, Marian “Toots” Kaltenbaugh, Charlotte Daubenspeck, Mary Backhaus, Helen Hamm, Dorothy Michael, Cleve, Kenneth, Russell, Alvin, Forest and Baby Boy Kaltenbaugh.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives of Laura E. Kaltenbaugh Nicklas who died on Wednesday will be received on Saturday from 10-11 A.M. at the A.Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Norman Totino of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Connoquenessing officiating.
