Roy H. "Sonny" Waugaman III, age 62, of Evans City, passed away Thursday September 19, 2013, in his home.
Born October 22, 1950, in Tarentum, he was the son of the late Roy H. Jr. and Mary Jasper Waugaman.
Sonny was a member of the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.
He retired in 2007, from the Seneca Valley School District as a 5th grade teacher. He had taught 24 years at Rowan Elementary and then 10 years in Evans City Elementary when 5th graders were transferred to Evans City.
Roy was a "68" graduate of Elderton High School, a 73 graduate of California University, and then earned his Masters in 1980 from Slippery Rock University.
Roy was a 42 year member of Apollo Lodge F&AM #437 and a member of the Coudersport Consistory.
He was a member of the Evans City Sportman's Club and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed preparing the ball fields and watching his grandson, Austin's baseball games.
Roy sang with the King's Men Quartet.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Caldwell Waugaman, whom he married August 11, 1979; a daughter and a son, Jamie Ellen and Jason R.; two sisters, Barbara J. Waugaman of Evans City and Nancy (Jeff) Wofford of Worthington; one brother, William (Cathy) Waugaman of Elderton; three grandchildren, Austin, Jonah, and Sophie, and nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends on Sat. Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kinsey-Volz Funeral Home, 328 West Main St. Evans City, Pa 16033. The family asks you to join them at 10 a.m. on Monday Sept. 23, at the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church for a special concert by the King's Men Quartet, celebrating Roy's life. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Jefferis officiating.
Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM will hold a Masonic Services on Sat evening at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
