Dorothy Leota Sutton Marburger, age 85, of Evans City, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
She was born June 22, 1928, in the family home in Evans City, the daughter of the late Orie Junior and Roxie Jane Fair Sutton.
She was 1946 valedictorian of Evans City High School and organized many class reunions. She helped make the world a better place through visiting, supporting missions, sending cards, and phone calls.
It was her calling and joy to show others "The Path of Life" through her membership at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the VTC Sunday School class, Lutheran Church women (Mary Circle), Communion Deacon, former Sunday School Superintendent and Vacation Bible School Coordinator. She also did this through service in many community organizations; Meals on Wheels for over 40 years, Jr. Women's Club, Christian Women's Club, Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader, Friends in Christ, Evans City Library, and Evans City Historical Society.
Something she never thought possible but accomplished was traveling to all 50 states, and 65 countries, the holy land being her favorite trip.
She enjoyed competing in various bowling leagues and placing in several state tournaments, playing Bridge, family stitching club, and attending Butler Symphony, and a avoid Pittsburgh Pirate fan.
She is survived by her children, Rev. Randall (Diane) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Rebecca (Rege) Rengers of Evans City, Roberta (Scott) McMillen of Sandston, VA, Robin (Steve) Van Dyke of Evans City, with whom she made her home, and Richard of Mesquite, TX; a sister and best friend Jean Sutton of Evans City, a brother William (Phyllis) Sutton of Bradfordwoods, two special sisters-in-law, Katie Marburger of Zelienople and Janet (Rich) Beahm of Harmony; known as Grandma Dot to 16 grandchildren, Eva (Alex) Graziani of Greensburg, Miriam Kirkpatrick of Clairton, Nathanael Marburger of Pittsburgh, Steve (Mary Beth) Rengers of Plum Borough, Julie (Scott) Rast of Beaufort, SC, Jenny Horn of Jacksonville, FL, Ben (Carrie) Piper of Aliquippa, Melissa (Ryan) Bonicky of Evans City, Zack (Katie) Rengers of New Brighton, Tabatha (Joe) Zarkauskas of Woodbridge, VA, Jason (Krystal) McMillen of Philipsburg, PA, Andrea McMillen of Washington, DC, Trevor and Tucker Van Dyke of Evans City, Joseph Marburger of Mesquite, TX and Kendra Marburger of Terrell TX; and 19 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Seth, Philip, Carissa, and Paul Graziani. Georgia Kirkpatrick, Katie Getz-Rengers, Megan Rengers, Hunter, Kylie, and Dylan Rast, Kirstin Horn, Stephanie Montini, Allison and Rachel Piper, Chelsea Mars, Alayna and Gianna Bonicky, and Alexa Zarkauskas, and also many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dale Marburger, former owner of Marburger Farm Dairy, whom she married on Feb. 18, 1950, and passed away on Aug. 2, 1968, and three brothers Jerry, Chuck, and John Sutton, and one Great Granddaughter.
Family and friends will be welcomed on Sunday June 30, 2013 from 12 to 2 and 6 to 8 P.M. and Monday 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home, with additional hours on Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:15 from the Church. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 from the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will take place in the Evans City Cemetery.
