We were sorry to learn of Robert Vaughn’s recent passing. Ginny and I extend our deepest sympathy to his wife and family. Bob was introduced to me as RL almost forty-four years ago as one of my mentors in the Anesthesia Department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and later became a colleague and friend. To say that Bob was a character bigger than life is an understatement. Despite his efforts to project strength and a tough exterior, he was sentimental and caring at his core. His work ethic was second to none, and he was unconditionally loyal as a friend. During his teaching career he helped countless students learn the sound principles of dental anesthesia. In his clinical practice of Dentistry, his patients benefited from his insistence on delivering the best care he could provide them.

I was very sorry to hear of RL's passing. I was his student and then fellow faculty member at Pitt Dental for many years. He was an excellent teacher, colleague and friend. He had a big heart and will be missed.
